Belle of the ball: The growing trend of natural looks on Brides

Updated: Jan 22, 2023

The allure of rocking your natural hair as a statement has been with us since the 60s. Since then, women of color have educated themselves on the variety of maintaining and showing off their curls.

The bride will always be the belle of the ball at her own wedding.

One of the most important “hair day” a woman will experience is her wedding day. On this day, women usually want to look and feel like royalty – and now, the look involves rocking your natural hair.

What began as a statement of rebellion against mainstream standards of beauty has evolved into simply embracing your natural beauty while experiencing an unforgettable moment, marrying the love of your life.

I have created simplistic to complex wedding hairstyles for celebrities to every-day women looking to feel their best while walking down the aisle.

I’ve focused my craft on braids, specifically. This allows me to pour all my passion & creativity into creating one-of-kind hairstyles that involve the art of braiding.

Recently, I had the pleasure of doing the wedding hairstyle for Singer Rhona Bennett of En Vogue where she married her long-time Friend, Shantiel.

Rhonda expressed to me during the preparation process that it was vital that she stay true to herself regarding her wedding aesthetic. She loves to incorporate natural hairstyles: ranging from her everyday looks to the statement pieces she rocks on stage.

After she shared what her inspired styles were, we worked together to make this look above come to reality. This kind of work is so important to me because it aligns with the overall mission that Beth Defines Beauty stands for.
